I am an emerging artist with a focus on contemporary realism and a belief that a primary purpose of art is to remind us of the beauty in our world and support our wellbeing by fostering positive states of mind- contemplation, joy, and reminiscence.

With this perspective, I don’t consider my role to be a creative provocateur, but rather a messenger of our best selves and a reminder of the support available to each of us through the enfolding arms of creation. I encourage us to look deeply into nature and remember that simple can be very powerful.

I studied classical methods at the Lorenzo de’ Medici Institute in Florence, Italy, and the Rees Atelier. I learned methods taught for centuries and adapted these to arrive at my own unique process. In oils, I focus on two distinct subjects, gentle, quiet still lifes that tend toward chiaroscuro backgrounds and austere compositions, and bold, close focus florals, sometimes completed on large scale canvas panels. The first is meant to relax the viewer, the second to energize. I work primarily in transparent colors, in both oils and watercolor, as the slow building of these paints results in a luminescence that can’t be achieved other ways.

Pieces are in the permanent collection of Midwestern University and housed with private collectors around the Western United States and South America and I strive to keep my work accessible to everyone who wishes to have meaningful original artwork in their personal spaces. You can learn my process at the Shemer Art Center in Phoenix, Arizona. Beginning and advanced classes in underpainting and glazing are available throughout the year. Watch the center’s calendar for more information.
